My Inner Redneck

with 2 comments

I look forward to this moment every year.. a chance to go to the Oldham County Fair and get in touch with my inner redneck. i put on my cut-off jeans, a wife beater and a hat – to go watch the most watched event at the OC fair – the DEMOLITION DERBY. Yeeehawwww. love it!! But before that could begin.. i had to walk around, check out the sights and get me some fair food 🙂

Things don’t move to fast here at the OC fair.. so, we had lots of down time in between races.

48 hour film festival

with one comment

Yesterday, I was asked by my friend- Tim Gooch to participate in the 48 hour film festival. I was ‘camera one’. I spent 7 hours of shooting (hmm, maybe that is what the ‘7’ was for :-p ) It was an horror film… ahhhhh. l so do not like horror films.. but it is not so bad when you are just filming it… i was only a little scared. If you’d like to see the film and all the others – you can get tickets here at the premiere. Premiere!! – wow, i’m going to be famous 🙂 Here are some of the crew-

Caleb: Senior Pictures

leave a comment »

This week – I have 3 guy shoots!! Most of the time, guys do not like getting their picture taken and then, of course, i have to make sure to not pose them in a girly pose. So, i am always nervous about taking their picture. But – I am realizing that guy photo shoots are a lot of FUN!! 1. They don’t mind getting dirty. 2. They can carry stuff. 3. They can do some really awesome action shots… so, i am loving the guy photo shoots!! Bring em on.

Here are some of my favorites of Caleb. We had so much fun in the junk yard!!

Just Cause

with one comment

In honor of International Justice Day… my friends at Spend Yourself asked me to write about this quote…

Justice denied anywhere diminishes justice everywhere. – Martin Luther King, Jr.

What they don’t know is that i have a book of quotes by MLK, because he has always been an inspiration for me.
51NAYJHV8AL._SL500_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-big,TopRight,35,-73_OU01_SS75_ Get book here.

I imagined myself like him.. giving of myself for a JUST CAUSE. I have always had an advocates heart for the powerless, the weak, the voiceless which is why I have a Master’s in Social Work. I so wanted to change the world. – still do. Yet, It can be overwhelming to look at this world.. and see… just so many affected by corruption. My eyes were opened to one more injustice this morning.. an organization called Falling Whistles brought it to my attention. Their story so moved me.. i bought a shirt. I also thought about volunteering there. It’s about helping people gain freedom. FIGHTING FOR OTHERS FREEDOM IS ALWAYS A JUST CAUSE!!

What is your JUST CAUSE? What do you stand for… what will you fight for.. what will you give yourself for? HOW can you affect change? I mean.. really.. there are a lot of JUST CAUSES – out there!! I guess you need to ask yourself.. what resonates with my heart? And do your research, if there is a company .. you want to support – find out how much overhead they have and what dollar amount goes to the JUST CAUSE. That’s why i like compassion My little girl is from rwanda.

But there are so many great organizations out there.. made up of ordinary people who decided to make a change. … Such as Spend Yourself. You can be a part of change. You can make a difference. If you need ideas.. click on any of the “JUST CAUSES” – to find an organization that i have supported and think are reputable.

I have been thinking about the MLK quote this week and thinking… how is justice diminished when it is denied in some place? And the best way.. i think to answer this question is with another quote:

“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” (Edmund Burke)

So.. let’s do something!! – with one more inspiration from the Reverend King

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that.” (MLK)
